Medical Administrator Dr. Diego Steinberg Ensures That the Foundation’s Vital Work Continues
All of us at the WorldCF miss our founder, the late Dr. Kenneth Salyer, very much. But our vital work continues under the able medical administration of Dr. Diego Steinberg, who is based in Buenos Aires.
“Dr. Salyer inspired me,” Dr. Steinberg writes, “with his passion for helping kids regardless their social or economic status. And he introduced me to charity work. Under his wing, I was invited to my first surgical missions with Operation Smile doing pro bono operations for cleft lip and palate patients. And I have often worked with Dr. Salyer and the WorldCF on difficult craniofacial cases in different parts of the world. So far, I have done ten medical missions with Op Smile and many others with the WorldCF and I always look forward to the next one.
“It was a real honor in the summer of 2018 when Dr. Salyer offered me the position as the foundation’s medical administrator. It was an easy offer to accept because it would allow me expand my frontiers in doing the work I love—helping kids with craniofacial deformities get the treatment they deserve.”
Dr. Steinberg was instrumental in the development of the WorldCF center at San José Children’s Hospital in Bogotá, Colombia, which has already become one of the foundation’s most important treatment centers under the very capable leadership of Dr. Rolando Prada. And Dr. Steinberg continues to oversee patient care in consultation with the foundation’s medical directors to determine where it is best to treat new patients who come to the foundation for help.
As the world slowly and carefully returns to something akin to normalcy on the heels of the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Steinberg’s work is increasing daily, yet his commitment is total and the foundation is fortunate to have someone of his talent and dedication.
